Mary Hawley

Mary Hawley is a fiction writer, poet, and literary translator. Her short stories have appeared in Doubleback Review, The Saturday Evening Post, Hypertext, Fifth Wednesday, and Easy Street, and she received a 2019 Illinois Literary Award in fiction. She's written one novel (unpublished so far) and is working on a second. She's the author of a poetry collection, Double Tongues, and co-translator of the bilingual poetry anthology Astillas de luz/Shards of Light. Her translation of Sergio Altesor Licandro's Cuadernos de dibujo (1978-1993) was published in 2022. She's active in Chicago's literary community and is a volunteer interpreter for the National Immigrant Justice Center. Mary grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, came of age in Lima and Mexico City, and currently resides in Evanston, Illinois.
